Suck Spring Baptist Church is a family of believers that exists to bring glory to God by proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to the world and emphasizing the growth and maturity of each believer.  We are located in the beautiful countryside of Bedford County, at the foot of the Peaks of Otter, near Gross’ Apple Orchard.  Our desire is to teach and preach biblical principles that show us how to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  If you don’t belong to a church, we hope you will come by and see what God is doing and seek His will in joining our fellowship.  We hope that you will find the members of our church to be friendly and caring people.  We would consider it a privilege to have you come and worship with us.

A Brief History

“Why such a strange name?” is a question often asked.  Named after Suck Mountain in Bedford County, on which there is a spring named Suck Spring, the church was established in 1805 and adopted the name from these geographic designations.  We have rendered a valuable Christian ministry to the community for over 200 years as families have settled and grown here.

The present church sanctuary was dedicated around 1868 after the Civil War.  Several additions have been made to accommodate our growth and to be equipped for ministry.  Some parts of the building’s foundation are literally built on solid rock because of the mountainous terrain!

Basic Beliefs

Southern Baptists have prepared a statement of generally held convictions called The Baptist Faith and Message 2000.  It serves as a guide to understanding who Southern Baptists are and their beliefs.
